product bulletin announces Data ONTAP® GX support for the FAS3040 platform. Data ONTAP GX systems are fully integrated, multinode
solutions designed to meet the needs of the most demanding high-performance
computing (HPC) and digital media content (DMC) applications. The primary HPC
markets include energy (e.g., seismic processing), EDA (e.g., chip
design, verification, and layout), and research labs (e.g.,

What’s New? This product bulletin announces a new Data
ONTAP GX platform—FAS3040-GX. Data ONTAP GX bundles are being created to help you win in
sales opportunities where customers require "scale-out" storage. In
these situations, customers typically purchase more controllers with less
storage per controller than with typical Data ONTAP 7G “scale-up” systems
and, hence, expect to pay less for the controller and software. In addition,
the scale-out storage space is full of start-up vendors, like Isilon, Panasas,
and IBRIX, and providing these bundles will enable you to be more competitive
and prevent the start-ups from gaining a footprint in the marketplace. More
information on competing with scale-out start-ups can be found at NetApp
Sales and NetApp
Partners. 3.
Sales Tools (Sales Guides, Training Presentations,
SE Presentations) Sales and technical
documents are available at NetApp Sales. This site has been updated to include new
functionality introduced in June 2007 with the release of Data ONTAP 10.0.2. In addition,
a GX Bundle FAQ is available to help with pricing proposals for competitive
scale-out storage opportunities. Partner sales are also available
for partners focused on the HPC and DMC markets. Sales and technical
documents are available at NetApp
Partners. 4.
Customer-Ready Tools (Customer Presentations,
Datasheets) http://www.netapp.com/mycommunities/PartnerCenter/745 Refer to the NOW™ (NetApp on the Web) site for the Data
ONTAP GX system configuration guide and certification list. Data
ONTAP GX bundles for the FAS3040 platform are introduced in the September 2007
Quote Tool. The table below lists part numbers related to these bundles.
Software
Subscription Plans Customers
should purchase SSP licenses for their Data ONTAP GX software. These licenses
entitle them to NetApp customer support and also to future releases of the
software. The following table lists the relevant SSP part numbers for the GX
bundles available in CE Quote Tool. Partners should contact their
channel representative for pricing information.
Quoting For
assistance with quoting the Data ONTAP GX bundles, refer to the GX Bundle FAQ
available at the NetApp Sales and NetApp
Partners sites. Quote Tool bulletins are available for NetApp sales at QTB_FAS3040GX and QTB_GX_LicenseManager
and for NetApp partners at QTB_FAS3040GX and QTB_GX_LicenseManager. Downloading Data ONTAP GX software downloading is available here. Look for “Data
ONTAP GX” in the Products column of the table. Product Availability FAS3040-GX bundles
are available in the September 2007 Quote Tool and will begin
shipping in early October. Note: With the
introduction of the FAS3040-GX bundles, the FAS3050-GX PVR promotion has been
terminated. Products need to be validated against the NetApp
Safety/EMI Regulatory Compliance List prior to order submission. The list is
available at PartnerCenter
Compliance Information. This is required to ensure that products are
being sold only in the countries in which NetApp has received regulatory
compliance certification. Data ONTAP
GX systems are supported fully through NetApp SupportEdge and ConsultingEdge
services. Please check NetApp Global
Services for details on how the NetApp Global Services team can help. Contact Information: Please contact your Network
Appliance sales
or channel
partner representative with questions concerning this bulletin.
